Experience
As a gameplay designer on this project I was responsible for designing and prototyping gameplay features. During the short time I worked on this project I was also being onboarded at The Coalition and familiarizing myself with the team, the tools, and the studio.
For the gameplay features I did work on, I would create and iterate on design documentation with guidance from leadership, and collaborate extensively with other designers.
I was also in engine prototyping a good amount, creating and iterating on my own features. I would often collaborate during this process with tech design as I was still familiarizing myself with the studio’s implementation pipeline.
Over the course of this project I was in constant communication with leadership and production to keep up to date on tasks, as well as getting my onboarding complete.
Impact
While short lived, my time on this project was both memorable and impactful. I learned about the AAA design pipeline while on this project, and how important it is to have intentional design, for players and developers alike.
I also learned a good amount about the different challenges large studios face compared to working on a small team. Silos were a common issue that was encountered during this time that made working with new people challenging and cumbersome, which was heightened due to Covid quarantine at this time.
I learned a lot for only working on this project for a short time, and I’ll always have a soft spot for it since it was first project I was a part of in the games industry!
more details to come…
Unfortunately I cannot go into much detail about the game itself or what features I worked on. If/when this project is revealed one day I will add more thorough breakdowns on my design process and workflow on specific features here!
